The International Student Coordination Board Convened
The Gümüşhane University International Student Coordination Board meeting was held under the chairmanship of International Student Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Çalık.
At a meeting held with unit coordinators for the planning of the new term, data on the international student profile at Gümüşhane University was shared. It was reported that as of 2025, a total of 1,745 international students were enrolled, 1,441 of whom were male and 304 were female. The Institute of Graduate Education (492 students) and the Gümüşhane Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (416 students) stood out as the units with the highest number of international students. Furthermore, the new structure of the International Student Coordinatorship was discussed, and the new guidelines for the Coordinatorship were briefly introduced.
It was stated that inter-unit coordination and activity planning for the new formation processes will be handled by the International Student Coordinator's Office, student registration will be handled by the Student Affairs Department, and Turkish language learning will be handled by the Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Center (TÖMER). At the meeting, Student Affairs Department Head Niyazi Karadeniz and TÖMER Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Doğan provided the necessary information regarding international student procedures within their respective areas of responsibility.
Other key topics covered included orientation, cultural events, a mentoring system, establishing interinstitutional collaborations, encouraging research and project activities, establishing an alumni network, and preparing annual performance reports. The meeting concluded after participants' suggestions and comments were received.
Expressing his satisfaction with the successful completion of the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Oktay Yıldız emphasized that the internationalization vision is one of the University's most important strategic goals. Rector Prof. Dr. Oktay Yıldız said, "The diversity in our international student population and academic units demonstrates that Gümüşhane University is steadily progressing toward becoming a regional and global center of attraction. Our 1,745 international students are the most valuable part of our University's cultural richness and scientific potential. Our new coordination office's student-focused structure, centered on inter-institutional collaboration, will further enhance our service quality. I extend my gratitude to all our units and staff who contributed."
